Customs
Ships from countries not belonging to the European Community that have to take on board or to land material or equipment from or to other countries must communicate it to Customs Service.
Immigration
Serviço de Estrangeiros e Fronteiras (SEF)/Immigration and Borders Service is the competent police authority, in Portugal, for immigration and borders issues, next named SEF. Immigration will require an IMO - International Maritime Organisation type Crew list and Passenger list.
Crew / Passenger lists
Crew and passengers lists should be filled in IMO FAL Form 5 (IMO crew list) and IMO FAL form 6 (IMO Passenger list). The crew/passenger lists should be sent as soon as possible, by email, to SEF to pf207.aveiro@sef.pt The originals should be given to liaison officer/SEF on arrival.
Same procedure is demanded for ships with crew and/or passenger changes. Ships with crew change should present a final crew list before leaving Ílhavo.
Identification documents / Visas
All crew members and passengers must have their national identification card, passports and/or seamen’s book.
- Passengers
It’s the responsibility of the passengers to obtain any visas that may be necessary. Failure to be in possession of such documents may have implications for the ship and to its operator. Failure to be in possession of a valid visa may render the person liable to stay always on board, or even removal from Portugal at the ships expenses.
Passengers must have the appropriate Schengen visa (previous requested at a Portuguese consulate) unless they are exempted of visa requirement as follows. In very exceptional/unexpected situations a visa can be requested/issued at the border post.
- Crew members
If crew members intend only to stay in the area of the port (Aveiro and Ílhavo areas) a shore leave can be requested/granted at the border post upon arrival. If they intend to enter in Portuguese territory, the appropriate Schengen visa (previous requested at a Portuguese consulate) is necessary unless they are exempted of visa requirement as follows. In very exceptional/unexpected situations a visa can be requested/issued at the border post.
